What Is a Tree of Life Breastfeeding Photo?
The illustration, the symbolism, and the difference between an overlay and a filter.
Quick answer
A Tree of Life breastfeeding photo combines a nursing image with a tree illustration. Its roots sit over the parent, its trunk follows the point of connection, and its branches reach toward the baby. It is a keepsake style that represents nourishment and growth.
What are the parts of the image?
- Roots: the foundation, placed over the parent.
- Trunk: the visual connection, usually near the latch.
- Branches: growth, extending toward the baby.
The exact placement depends on the photograph. The tree should complement the moment rather than cover a face or become the whole image. For more about the metaphor, read the meaning of the Tree of Life.
Tree overlay or artistic filter?
An overlay adds a separate graphic. An effect changes color, texture, or atmosphere. A simple tree on a natural photo and a colorful Galaxy keepsake are two different interpretations of the same idea.

Is every brelfie a Tree of Life photo?
No. A nursing selfie can be a brelfie without an edit. The tree is one optional way to mark that moment. Our brelfie explainer covers the term separately.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a Tree of Life breastfeeding photo?
It is a nursing photo with a tree illustration placed over the connection between parent and baby. Roots spread over the parent, the trunk sits near the latch, and branches extend toward the baby. The overlay represents nourishment and growth.
Is a Tree of Life overlay the same as a photo filter?
No. The overlay is the tree illustration you position on the photo. A filter or artistic effect changes the appearance of the image. You can use the tree overlay on its own or combine it with an effect.
What does brelfie mean?
Brelfie combines breastfeeding and selfie. A brelfie can be an ordinary nursing selfie; it does not need a tree overlay or an artistic effect.
